简介：影片虚构了一场登陆火星的航天计划。但不幸的是，电影编剧破坏了电影缜密的调查研究，粗制滥造了一些情节，比如影片最后指挥官以奇怪的宗教立场中止了登陆火星行动。　　电影的拍摄器材是cinemascope（应该是当时唯一的一台，归福克斯所有，当时有另外两部大制作《地心历险记》和《海底两万里》也是这台机器拍摄的）。和同时期的大制作科幻电影一样，电影也聘请了火箭专家布劳恩作为电影的技术顾问，电影中展示了V2火箭，以及太空站，也属影史首次。　　此外，电影在意识形态上也有所进步，并不局限于五十年代的冷战主题，电影的主题更为宏大，同时电影也在演员的肤色上“精心挑选”，力求一定的平衡。　　当然，电影最大的问题就是为了保证科学性而丧失了娱乐性。显然，本片想要摆脱老科幻电影的”低级趣味“，但是当火星不再出现怪兽和外星人的时候，如何能够抓住观众眼球是电影面临的巨大挑战。可无论如何，这部《征服太空》无疑是一部不可忽视的科幻杰作。
