青年夫婦張達明與李嘉英新婚燕爾，感情融洽。每天下班之後，一同自碼頭渡海歸家。一日，二人偶遇任職汽車經紀的同學馬正康；馬使用其三寸不爛之舌，向小夫婦推銷汽車。兩人大感興趣，賣掉相機和鑽戒，終於得償心願。取車之日，房東古青峰夫婦見到他們乘車歸來，驚奇無比，不禁對兩人刮目相看。 　　此後，二人下班後輪流學車，四個月後，更先後考取駕駛執照，約定誰先下班就誰開車。一日，達明先抵家，將車開走，馬正康前往接嘉英下班，游說她參加「香車美人」比賽。達明見妻子遲遲未返，惱怒不已；鄰房交際花朱珍珍在餐廳碰見李馬二人，並告訴達明，嘉英深夜歸來後二人大吵一架。 　　自買車以來，夫婦其實已債台高築，誤會頻生，兩人痛定思痛，決定賣掉汽車。結婚周年之日，嘉英宣布有喜，達明興奮不已，古青峰取笑他要準備明年再買一輛車 「不過是嬰兒車」！

　　璎珞与师父初到京城搭班唱戏，遇到了大学生顾铭轩，两人一见钟情，私定终身。不久铭轩被抓回家。军阀混战开始，顾家逃难离京；师父也暴病身亡，璎珞孤身一人，挺着身孕，重返梨园。
